Joseph Geldart Funeral Directors Horsforth Leeds – Funeral Directors Horsforth Leeds
JOSEPH GELDART AND SONS
Joseph Geldart and son funeral directors based at Horsforth near Leeds in Yorkshire, offer all types of funeral services. We have been established since 1880 and a 4 generation family business.
This is a sad time, and a time for quiet and happy contemplation, a time for the family to celebrate a memorable conclusion of a loved one. At Joseph Geldart funeral director, we personally deal with the family throughout the process, getting to know them, instilling confidence and friendship.
As an independent funeral director we offer you the care and service that you don’t get from a large national funeral director. This means that you get the care and service that you need at this difficult time.
We are sympathetic, we are family orientated, we care for you, and we listen to your requests then work with you to arrange a fitting funeral that is relevant for your family circumstances. Put simply we manage and care for the family in a time of need. Caring continues with the family long after the funeral.
In 1991 Joseph Geldart & Sons reintroduced horse drawn hearses into the Yorkshire area after an absence of 70 years. We have 3 carriages in total with 2 dating back to 1850 & 1900, both are Marston hearse carriages. All carriages are drawn by 2 black Frisian horses. These are probably the only remaining horses in Leeds. Our stables are located at Hollow Drift Farm, Roker lane in Pudsey.Mourners may wish to walk behind the horse drawn hearse or we can of course provide a mourners carriage or Mercedes limousines.
Death at Home
It is best to inform the local doctor as soon as possible. A death certificate may be issued at the surgery for you to collect or they may issue one when they attend you.
Death in Hospital
The hospital staff will have arranged for the completion of the Death Certificate by one of the attending doctors. If you would like a cremation to take place then either inform the hospital, or us, so that an additional form (the Cremation Form B, C and F) can be completed.
If the deceased has not been seen by his/her doctor within 14 days prior to death or the death is sudden then it is required to be reported to the Coroner. The doctor may inform the Coroner on your behalf.
The Coroners role is to establish a cause of death, and this may be done by post mortem. Once the cause of death has been ascertained, the deceased will be released allowing the funeral to proceed. This process can take a few days or more. We will then be able to tell you when the death can be registered. Note that if a Coroners Inquest is needed (death thought to occur due to unnatural causes), this can take some time. We will be able to advise you on this.
